Homemade and not from a jar

Spaghetti has been a favorite of mine since I was very little. Whenever we have it at home, James and I never pour it straight from a jar. Here is one recipe that we use.

Italian Spaghetti

1.5 lbs. ground round or chuck
1 small onion, finely diced
2 stalks celery, diced
green bell pepper, diced
1/4 tsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. black pepper
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. oregano
1/2 tsp. basil
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 tsp. parsley
2 bay leaves
1 tsp. Italian seasoning
1 small can tomato paste
28 oz. can tomato sauce
1 small can water
1 pkg. spaghetti sauce mix
1 16 oz. pkg. spaghetti

Saute meat, celery, onion, bell pepper and parsley. Drain off excess grease, then add seasonings, tomato sauce/paste and water. Add spaghetti mix and simmer approximately 45 minutes to one hour. In meantime, boil 1.5 quarts salted water and break spaghetti into small pieces, add to boiling water. Boil spaghetti approximately 30 minutes, then drain into collander. Serve spaghetti sauce over cooked spaghetti and sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top as served, if desired. Add a green salad and French bread for a delicious meal!
